10th Sibu International Dance Festival

Sibu International Dance Festival (SIDF) was first initiated and organized by Hornland Dance Theatre in Sibu, Malaysia. In year 2012, it launched its first debut concert with the acknowledgement and support of the Sibu Municipal Council, Malaysia. It has been aimed to be held as an annual event during mid-term school holiday of the second half semester of Malaysia in the largest town in the central zone of Sarawak, Sibu, which is located next to the Rejang River, the longest river in South-east Asia.

The 10th edition of SIDF will be held in 17 – 21 September, 2024. There are two sessions of the festival:

1. World Dance Fiestas – Folk, Line, Belly, and Street Dance Night
Date: 17 to 19 September, 2024
Venue: Open Stage, The Town Square, Sibu
2. International Dance Concert
Date: 20 to 21 September, 2024
Venue: Ballroom, Kingwood Hotel, Sibu

The festival is open to all kinds of dances, traditional or contemporary, for all-age group and of all races and cultures, both locally and internationally.

The activities of the festival extend from indoor stages to outdoor stages, and even onto the corners of the streets. It aspires to draw and encourage more people to join the festival and be more directly and personally involved with the performers and their performances.

SIDF also aims to become the world platform for artists and arts organization on local, regional and international levels to exchange dialogs, concepts, experiments, explorations and display the diversity of dances, and of course, to facilitate the development of tourism, arts and culture in this region through this event.

In conjunction of the 10th anniversary of SIDF, this year the festival will be divided into two sessions, the first session- World Dance Fiestas – Folk, Line, Belly, and Street Dance Night will be held on the open stage which is of 42ft dept x 52ft width, on Sept 17-19, 2024.

The location of the open stage will be at the town square of Sibu which is Tun Tuanku Bujang Town Square. A temporary open stage covered with roof will be set up and the full-set of lighting and sound system will be installed to the stage.

The second session which is International Dance Concert, will be held at the Ballroom, Kingwood Hotel, Sibu on Sept 20 & 21, 2024. Will focus on more professional and more theatrical performances.
