Hornland Dance Theatre
Hornland Dance Theatre is a non-profit organization founded by Mr. Chen Ing Kuan in 1995. It aims to provide a professional dance platform, as well as to explore local arts and culture through dance. The name is derived from “The Land Of Hornbill” and the inspiration of the magnificient Rejang River. These form the basis for dance forms symbolising the muli-cultural nation of Sarawak. All Hornland dancers receive training in ballet, contemporary, cultural dances, and yoga.
Since 1996, Hornland has created more than 100 short pieces of dance, and was the only dance group to win the top 2 awards (gold and silver) in the 20th National Chinese Dance Festival in Kuala Lumpur, a record yet to be broken. In 2012, Hornland organized the first Sibu International Dance Festival in Sibu; the second festival will take place from 13-17 August 2013.
