Join us as we learn, explore, train, and talk to our bodies through the language of ballet. Whether you’re 18 or 80, ballet offer so much more than technique – it offer a path to physical vitality, mental clarity, and emotional expression.

*Long hand towel – We’ll use this for stretching and support during certain exercises.

2. Basic moves of Folk Dances of Punjab

Beginners to dance and/or Bhangra are welcome! We will start with an opportunity to get to know each other, then spend some time dancing. At the end of the workshop, folks can stay and continue getting to know each other, listening to music and relaxing.

3. Contemporary Dance Workshop

Contemporary Technique that is being used with the UP Dance Company. It explores the individual style of Sarah Samaniego that is rooted from her training in classical ballet to different styles of contemporary dance and her inkling in the styles of Philippine dance.

It begins with from warm up on the floor into the articulation of the feet, limbs and the whole body and ends in leaps and movement creation and vocabulary of most of the repertoire of UPDC.

4. Marathi Folk Dance

“Rhythms of Maharashtra: A Marathi Folk Dance Workshop”

This workshop offered participants a vibrant and immersive journey into the rich and diverse world of Marathi folk dance. Designed to celebrate Maharashtra’s cultural heritage, the session introduced traditional dance forms such as Yelkot, Lavani, Koli, Lezim, Shetkari Nritya.

Through hands-on practice, participants explored the rhythms, movements, expressions, and cultural significance of each style. The workshop aimed to not only teach choreography but also foster an appreciation for the stories, traditions, and communities these dances represent.

Led by experienced instructors, the workshop served as a platform for artistic learning, cultural connection, and joyous expression — bringing the spirit of Maharashtra to life, one step at a time.

2. Cakil Dance Style

Cakil Dance Workshop: Exploring Movement and Character

The Cakil dance is a traditional Javanese dance rooted in wayang (shadow puppet) performances, portraying the battle between good and evil. In this workshop, participants will explore the character of Cakil — a fierce and expressive antagonist known for his dynamic movements.

Designed for beginners, this workshop introduces the basic techniques of Cakil dance, including:

Body posture and floor patterns

Facial expressions and hand gestures

Signature stepping and attacking movements

Guided by an experienced instructor, participants will also gain insight into the meaning behind the movements and how to express the character of Cakil through dance. No prior dance experience is needed — just a willingness to move and learn!

2. Forging Traditions: Empowering Communities

FORGING TRADITIONS is a community outreach program for duration of two days aimed at keeping Malaysia’s rich and diverse cultural dance heritage alive and relevant to the new generations of citizens that have grown up without knowledge or experience of it. In this workshop, participants will be taught Chinese Fan Dance – A lively folk dance cherished by the Chinese community by using the hand-fan and Malay Traditional Dance: Asli – An elegant and refined Malay dance form, capturing the grace of Malay traditions.

Each two-day session will cover:
1. The historical and cultural background of each dance form.
2. Mastery of fundamental techniques and movement sequences.
3. Choreographic exploration and performance skills.

2. Dai Ethnic Dance Workshop

This Chinese Dai Dance training workshop will focus on learning a 2–3 minute training sequence of the Dai Peacock Dance. The sequence integrates the essential training elements of Dai dance:

•Hand articulation: Through delicate exercises of the small joints, participants will refine control and coordination of the fingers, wrists, and elbows. By imitating the graceful movements of the peacock, the training emphasizes the soft, fluid rhythm expressed through the hands.
•Body posture: Students will learn the characteristic body positions of Dai dance, experiencing the unique “three curves” (san dao wan) that combine elegance and suppleness within dynamic movements.
•Footwork: The course also provides systematic training in Dai dance steps, from the foundational patterns to fluid transitions that coordinate with body rhythm and movement.
